Four in Sudan
These images from Northern Sudan, part of a longer project, combine my feelings about the desert with some other preoccupations: the Landscape Sublime, significant detail, emptiness and detachment. The desert is a special place for me, neither hostile nor welcoming, but simply indifferent.
About Artist
Christopher Poke
I am a university lecturer and actor who has been taking photographs since I was a child. I am interested in the accidental and the contingent, in making images that go beyond my intentions, that create, find or record elements that resonate in some way. It can be a bold formal component or a nearly overlooked detail; a revealing look or random gesture, suggestive of some unseen narrative, or the record of an intentional performance; an empty space in which nothing seems to be happening, or the forceful presence of some architectural or natural structure.
