Still Life III
About Artist
Karen Kirkpatrick
Shooting primarily black & white film for many years, I began using a digital camera in 2009. The addition of digital manipulation caused me to discover that color could also add depth and emotion to the very personal work that previously I had captured best with monochromatic scenes. Digital manipulation allows control over expression of mood and emotion. Often using the landscape and nature, I build images that hold a story, a feeling or a suggestion of human connection to parts of nature that we often take for granted. I attempt to infuse my work with the unseen – sometimes touching on the psychological or emotional and sometimes the ethereal. There is a human presence in each of the images, which is often implied rather than obvious.
