About Artist
Amber Botterill
Amber Botterill was born in Melbourne, Australia where she currently lives with her young family. From an early age Amber fell in love with film photography and spent much of her school years in the darkroom, merging nature and art with a profound love of macro botanicals. Early influences of Georgia O’Keeffe, Arthur Boyd and Sally Mann saw her captivated by the beautiful connection of human fragility and the land, with painting and photography featuring heavily in her arts major. As a creative drawn to the human psyche, Amber explored avenues of art, film and psychology, going on to complete a BA in sociology and human behaviour at Monash University in Melbourne. Amber’s work lends itself to the simplicity and vulnerability of the human condition. Love, longing, loneliness and desire. Her trademark monochromatic imagery is stunningly understated, inviting the viewer to delve into their own perceptions of her images. 'These images are no longer mine, they come to you with open arms. Make of them what you will, open yourself up to connection and self reflection.' Her photography, a gentle journey of self, wrapped in the beautiful lights and darks of life. Amber has received numerous awards and distinctions for her portrait work and is due to have her work exhibited as a 2025 ‘finalist’ in galleries across Australia in the coming months. She was awarded 15th place in Australasia’s Emerging Photographers in 2021 with her series ‘Pieces of us’ and was named People’s Choice Winner of the Portrait category of the Mono Awards in 2021. Amber’s work appears in publications including Capture Magazine, Australian Photography Magazine and American based Shots Magazine. Amber continues to pursue projects and artistry that evoke the ‘essence of being.'
