About Artist

Claudio Majorana

Claudio Majorana was born in 1986 in Catania, Italy, where he still lives. From his earliest age, he experienced the intertwined influence of art and science as he grew up spending time after school in his father’s radiology darkroom and his mother’s painting atelier. His interest in photography bloomed during efforts to document the Sicilian skateboard scene in which he was deeply involved. After completing a degree in medicine with a thesis on social cognition and brain development during adolescence, he chose to dedicate himself to photography, focusing on the coming of age years. Drawing from this research, in 2018 he published Head of the Lion, his first monograph exploring the transition to adulthood. During the same year, he started with photographer Arianna Arcara the ongoing project Ciao vita mia, set in Librino, a suburban neighbourhood of Catania. He recently pursued postgraduate studies in psychotherapy, moved by the desire to deepen his understanding of himself and others. In his latest book, Mal de Mer, out with Cesura Publish, Majorana portrayed of nuanced coming of age experiences between youth summer camps, forests, cemeteries, and other arbitrary settings in Vilnius and on the outskirts of Lithuania. Since 2020, he has been a member of the photo collective CESURA.
