Where They Whisper
In a cave hidden deep in the mountains of Japan, thousands of small stones rest quietly, placed by visitors: each one standing for an offering, a wish, a burning desire, or a silent prayer. Here, the deities of the Japanese pantheon dwell in secrecy.
About Artist
Yota Yamashita
I basically work as a graphic designer, UIUX designer and art director. I was born and raised in Japan and have made art, ads and games. Now I live and work in Amsterdam. Photography is part of my creative process and one of the things I do on a daily basis. I am interested in prayer and people's wishes, almost like a thought. It is like a voice without sound, just there. I take pictures to capture that feeling. I also believe that something beautiful is always missing, deteriorated, or dirty. This is because that is the proof of a person's life. I create works that are beautiful and fragile, sad and strong, and that are centered on such Japanese culture and senses.
