About Artist

Cecilia Clark

Cecilia Clark is a Diamond Springs, California, photographer who refuses to be categorized. My eye is drawn to smaller, intimate scenes rather than sweeping landscapes, says the photographer. She enjoys photographing landscape textures, reflections of light and colors, animals within their environment, and her travels. Ms. Clark further explains that her passion is learning where and how people live. The result of her travels is documented in her current travel journal that dates back to 2012 when she was living in Macedonia (now North Macedonia). Her travel posts and photography can be viewed at CeciliaClark.com. Ms. Clark views traveling and meeting people in their own countries as mind expanding and even life changing. Sharing a table with strangers in Beijing who helpfully offer a lesson on using chopsticks, enjoying a cup of tea made with the purest water at the highest pass in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains paid for by a hitchhiking traveling merchant to whom a ride was given on a rainy day, buying a handmade bow and arrows from a villager in Papua New Guinea who asks whether they would be used for hunting birds or larger protein, discussing politics with a beekeeper in Iran, trying to stay calm while eating barbecue meats at a campground in Botswana while surrounded by lions, or negotiating a price for photos of Stilt Fishermen in Sri Lanka; these are just a few of her memories and why she continues to share her photos and stories of her travels. Ms. Clark's most recent travel was to Iraq where she made friends through her camera. Iraqis don't mind being photographed and especially enjoy taking selfies with visitors. Everyone she met in Iraq was hospitable and generous. She is saddened that those same Iraqis now subjected to the sounds of missiles and gunshots could be thrust into another war.
