The Vanishing Line
About Artist
Miles Hewitt-Boorman
I am a UK-based wildlife and landscape photographer whose work focuses on simplicity, atmosphere, and patience in the field. My practice is rooted in slowing down and paying attention to the subtleties of the natural world at times and in conditions when it is most often overlooked. In my landscape photography, I concentrate on quiet and understated scenes rather than dramatic vistas. I often work in fog, snow, dusk, or other conditions that remove distraction and allow form and atmosphere to take precedence. The intention is not to overwhelm the viewer, but to create images that encourage stillness and reflection. My wildlife photography follows the same approach. I use both colour and black-and-white to highlight simple gestures, textures, and fleeting encounters with animals. A bird in fog, a fox disappearing into snow, or the close study of feathers under soft light are examples of how I seek to record presence while acknowledging impermanence. These are not portraits in the traditional sense, but moments that emphasise space, silence, and the passing of time. Minimalism is a consistent theme throughout my work. By reducing images to their essential elements, I aim to create photographs that do not demand immediate attention but instead invite the viewer to pause and return. This process is based on patience, observation, and the belief that meaningful photographs are created slowly, both in the field and in the act of viewing. My goal is to produce work that reflects a different way of engaging with nature—one that values quiet observation and rewards sustained attention. Whether in landscapes or wildlife studies, my images are intended to create space for reflection, offering a slower, more considered view of the natural world.
