Daniela Brunner, PhD. Brunner (b. 1959, Argentina) has an active photographic and multimedia practice, enriched by her studies at the PhotoClub Buenos Aires (Argentina), Nikon School of Photography (New York), and the International Center of Photography (ICP, NY, USA). She has exhibited paintings and photography, including in the US (“The Alignment: Women of the Light”- AC-BAW Center for the Arts, 2000), Argentina (2nd price and mention- Concurso de Fotografía- Buenos Aires University, 1984) and a solo exhibition in Spain (Pequeña Galería, Madrid, 2022). Her graphic work includes the book maquette for Ada Korn Editora (Argentina), logo design (International Soc. of Comparative Psychology, Ada Korn Editora, PsychoGenics Inc, and Early Signal Foundation) and contributions to various magazines. Her current projects explore the integration of different art forms such as photography, sculpture, paintings, resin and woodwork. The project "I Don't Weep - Do You" reimagines the concept of masking: the performative behavior (represented by emotionless resin masks) that hides real emotion (captured photographically). This multimedia project explores the tension between the id pushing emotions, disgust, rage, and desire and the defense mechanisms of the socially conscious ego. In addition she focuses much of her time in the darkroom, working on a photo book in the B&W style of the Japanese photography of the 60s. This collection of dark room silver prints focuses on the subjectivity of our view of reality, exploring distortions from different viewpoints and perspectives, playing with reflections and strong lighting choices. Her work is dedicated to those whose heart warms when light hits the right way, when lines take them for a ride, when a silky middle tone brings them awe, when an unexpected reflection or a shadowy contrast triggers a smile. Her work embraces a melancholic and nostalgic sense of beauty best left to the suggestion and interpretation of the viewer’s soul. Her “other life” includes a biology MSc from the University of Buenos Aires and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Cambridge Univ., UK. She was affiliated with Columbia and Yale Univ., taught at CUNY and Fordham Univ., and worked in non-profit institutions and industry for over two decades. She was the CTO of a NJ Biotech, and Adjunct Associate Professor at Mt Sinai. She received the “Scientist of the Year Award” (Great Minds in Stem, HENAAC, 2021). Brunner worked for various rare disorders NGOs (CHDI, TSC Alliance, Children’s Tumor Foundation, CureVCP, EarlySignal Foundation).
