Josep Francesc Sanmartín Cava

Josep Sanmartín was born in Valencia in August 1979. He began his studies in Fine Arts at the age of 21. Since entering the Polytechnic University of Valencia, he has developed his artistic practice around audiovisuals, sculpture and scenography. This allows him to develop independent production, founding the international artistic group Macaco Group. At the end of his undergraduate studies, he coordinates various cultural activities at various festivals and develops an international photography contest for the Reina Sofía Center for the Study of Violence, whose photographs will be exhibited on medium-distance trains that will travel around the peninsula. Spanish, over three editions. With the crisis, in 2013 he emigrated to Mexico, where he joined the staff of the Vicente Lombardo Toledano Center for Philosophical, Political and Social Studies. It will be in Mexico City where he defines the lines of research that characterize his work: identification, mythology and audiovisual narrative. In this center he concludes his master's studies, a result of which he chose his research Privacy and intimacy, electronic media and intellectual property among the best of his degree. Upon his return to Valencia in 2019, he obtained a doctorate in Communication and Cultural Industries from the Universitat Politècnica de València two years later, obtaining outstanding cum laude. It will be in this same period when he begins to teach at said university and at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. Likewise, he will join the editorial team of the academic and indexed journal AYLLU of the Ibero-American Society of Philosophical Anthropology, first as technical director in 2019, and then as director of the editorial team in 2021. Since graduating from the university, he has participated in several internationally awarded stage and audiovisual projects, among which his documentaries "Imagine sleeping at home" (2012) and "Distancias" (2011) stand out. Since returning to his homeland, he has resumed his artistic work around photography, sculpture and scenography. Currently, he collaborates with the circus company DelsAltres, is part of the Intermedia Creations Laboratory (LCI) Research Group, with recent interventions at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) and collaborates with the Center for Cooperation and Development of the UPV , exploring new possibilities around artistic photography, from practice and research. Likewise, he has begun to exhibit individually with the Alexandra Istorik Gallery, also participating in fairs and other group exhibitions.
