NYC Night Life II
NYC's steam vents fascinate me... the way they turn the mundane into the cinematic. Recently, I observed night strollers walk about, framed by lights, halos of steam, even the occasional police car. Through my lens, I saw proof that, even in a city that never sleeps, beauty can rise from the depths.
About Artist
Scarlett Freund
I am a portrait and street photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. Born in NY, I grew up in São Paulo, Brazil, and that experience taught me to be at home everywhere and nowhere. As a photographer, I am drawn to the human figure navigating the stresses and promises of modernity. Through my lens, I look for moments in which life stands still and the next instant hangs in the balance, unknown and about to unfold. What I love about street photography is its unpredictability, its knack for storytelling and shaking up familiar ways of seeing. How, with every shot, there’s the potential to make the world anew. Ultimately, I see photography as a utopian practice. I hope my images will move viewers to engage with narratives other than their own. My work has received recognition from, among others, APA and WSP, and has been shown in group exhibitions in New York, Venice, Milan, Paris, and Rome.
