About Artist
Jonathan Troll
Hello! My name is Jonathan Troll, owner of Broken Stinger Photography (BSP). My journey into the world of photography began long before I founded BSP. While earning both my master’s and doctorate degrees in psychology from Northwest University, I jumped into research that took me around the world. My academic work—rooted in the study of psychology and culture—along with a desire to see the world, led me to travel to Thailand, India, Brazil, and Kenya. I would later return to Kenya to conduct my dissertation research, focusing on depression in children and adolescents in the Kangemi neighborhood of Nairobi. It was during my time abroad that I developed a passion for photography, and it was then that I began documenting the people, cultures, and landscapes I encountered. In 2011, after receiving approval to conduct my dissertation research, I purchased my first Nikon camera to document my trip. Since then, I rarely travel without a camera in hand. Today, I’m a Pacific Northwest–based psychologist and photographer. Born and raised between the Cascade mountain range and Puget Sound, I'm dedicated to capturing the intersection of faith, life, and the natural world. Whether working close to home or traveling abroad, I'm shooting to preserve the intentional beauty of the world and the stories woven through it.
