Light, Forms, and Dots, Abu Dhabi
Taken at the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, this image focuses on the interplay of light and structure. The curved ribs create rhythm and depth, while the low sun defines sharp shadows. In black and white, the architecture becomes a study of geometry, contrast, and form.
About Artist
Rudy Mareel
Rudy Mareel is a Belgian photographer based in Ghent. He photographs what he sees — not to dramatise it, but to record it carefully. Light changes, places evolve, structures age, people pass. Photography allows him to pause those moments. He spends roughly half of his time travelling. Travel is a way to explore and better understand the world. Whether abroad or at home, he works in the same way: observe carefully, frame precisely, and document what is there. He does not work within strict genres. Landscape, city, travel and everyday life are part of the same practice. What connects the images is attention — to light, to structure, and to how people shape their surroundings. Each photograph becomes part of a growing archive. Not of spectacular events, but of lived moments and changing places. The aim is simple: record today with care, knowing it will look different tomorrow. Before focusing more consistently on photography, Mareel built an international career in the healthcare industry. He now serves as a Non-Executive Director of various companies and advises healthcare investors throughout Europe. His work has been published on curated platforms such as 1x and in the Leica Fotografie International (LFI) Gallery. His photographs have appeared in books, been used in promotional publications, and featured in National Geographic publications. Outside photography, he has a strong interest in photography books and prints, collects Leica cameras, enjoys wine and Asian cuisine, and is a proud grandfather.
