Ivory Tower
In monochrome, the spiral staircase abandons its function and becomes something else entirely. Concrete, shadow, and negative space resolve into the quiet outline of an elephant. The oval skylight suggests an eye, while the white form bends like a trunk, where geometry becomes memory.
About Artist
Reinier Harmse
Reinier Harmse is a South African architectural photographer whose work is shaped by the rare advantage of designing architecture as well as capturing it. Holding both an N.Dip and B.Tech in Architectural Technology, and with over a decade of experience as an Architectural Professional, he has developed a deep understanding of how spaces are designed, experienced, and remembered, creating a symbiotic relationship between the architectural and photographic fields. His perspective is shaped by both technical precision and creative instinct. His understanding of proportion, light, material, and form allows him to see architecture beyond its surface, capturing not just structures, but atmosphere, intention, and presence. Working primarily with natural light, his photography emphasizes clean lines, strong composition, and dynamic perspective, creating bold imagery rich in depth, texture, and character. His work exists where architecture and art meet, where precision meets emotion, and where the built environment is given a second life through the lens.
