I have had a camera in my hand since I was 7. Even while going through veterinary school, I worked my way through in the Medical Illustration department. In that after-hours job, I would be available to go out into the clinics to take pictures of unusual cases or various teaching procedures. I learned how to shoot on film, do my own processing, set up still images on a light box, and even learning how to go through the laborious process of stacking slides to make teaching word slides. I learned a lot working under two amazing Registered Biological Photographers. Even after graduation, I continued with photograpy as a serious hobby until getting a chance to accompany a journalist for Aviation Week out on assignments. I have had photos published in magazines published by the US Equestrian Federation and Aviation Week. As an Iditarod veterinarian, I am often right in the thick of one of the World's most challenging and amazing races between teams of human and dog working together to travel nearly 1000 miles in some of the world's harshest terrain. Even when on the clock, I have always had my little prosumer point-and-shoot in a deep pocket of my Arctic parka, staying warm and ready to catch images with just the flip of a button. I've had the special ability to capture some of Nature's amazing aurora as well as the intimacy of the human-animal bond. Over the past 5 years, I have decided to get more serious about my photography and, besides shooting some of my patients (dogs, cats, horses, rhinos, giraffes, etc), I have started to branch out into wildlife and landscape photography. To-date, I have won several local and regional awards. But, I still haven't given up my day job.
