I am Alexandru Valentin Duta, an underwater photographer, filmmaker, and professional scuba diver. My background in Cinema and Film in London strongly influences the way I approach photography. I am drawn to movement, atmosphere, light, composition, and the visual language of storytelling. I explore marine life through a creative and cinematic perspective, looking beyond simple documentation to capture moments of emotion, mystery, fragility, and wonder. Every dive becomes an opportunity to observe the hidden character of the ocean and translate a fleeting underwater moment into an image. The ocean is often celebrated for its incredible colours, but my work explores another side of marine life. One defined by light, shape, movement, texture, and emotion. By removing colour, I invite the viewer to look beyond the obvious and discover details that can easily be overlooked beneath the surface. Black and white creates a timeless atmosphere, allowing the character, form, and presence of each creature to become the focus. Through light, contrast, and composition, I aim to reveal the underwater world in a different way, not only as a place of vibrant beauty, but as a realm of mystery, elegance, isolation, and silent stories. My work is ultimately about the relationship between the human observer and a world that exists largely beyond our everyday experience. I invite the viewer to see the ocean differently. To look closer. To slow down. And to discover what lies beneath the surface.
