About Artist

Philippe Ricordel

Philippe Ricordel is a French photographer, a photographer by passion, he is a world traveler fascinated by the beauty of the earth and the wild animals that inhabit it. He testifies to this with his images taken as close as possible to the species in their natural environment. Philippe's technical mastery and artistic sensitivity combine to allow the viewer to have a direct confrontation with the beauty contained in each bird, mammal or animal he photographs. Through the prism of endangered species, such as snub-nosed monkeys, the photographer attempts to achieve the ultimate goal of bridging the gap between species. As Philippe says, "Animals are only ever the mirror of ourselves, in the eyes of each animal, we look at ourselves and see another world, a world that should be protected because we are part of it, completely; and consequently "I think that popularization and education are key elements in raising awareness of environmental change". Philippe's work on Japan is perfectly in line with the continuity of his work, which is both naturalistic and artistic. Naturalist to bear witness to and highlight known or unknown species, and whenever possible magnifying them with an artistic approach, an approach that is particularly marked with the 冬色(Fuyu Iro) series. His images are featured in magazines such as Nat'Images (Rhinopithecae, Japan), The Guardian (Polar Bears), 30 Millions d'amis (Rhinopithecae), Terre Sauvage (Pallas's Cat). His images are distributed by Naturagency. Philippe is a member of the International Primate Society (IPS) and the SFDP (Société Française de Primatologie), and works in collaboration with various associations such as Selamatkanyaki (Indonesia) and contributes to various podcasts. He is the author of several technical books on the use of digital development software published by Eyrolles, and has contributed illustrations to several scientific works.
