A Portrait of Homelessness
When photographing a series on the homeless, I took several pictures of Alan, pictured here. His gaunt face and resigned expression encapsulated the harsh life on the street.
About Artist
Margaret Halaby
I practiced law for a year, hated it, had a couple of other jobs and am now retired. An alternative bio is that I have been creating pictures all my life, had my first set of oil paints at ten, took painting classes at the National Academy of Design for two years while my daughter was in preschool. While painting was my first love, I was taking photographs at the same time and came to find more satisfaction in photography than painting. When I got my first digital camera, I was hooked. When taking pictures, I try to go beyond what I see in front of me. With landscapes I strive to evoke the mood the scene elicited in me; with portraits I seek to penetrate the social facade and capture the deep feelings of the subject.
