Sven Eisenhut
Bio
Sven Eisenhut-Hug is a Basel-based entrepreneur renowned for his significant contributions to the art world, particularly in the realm of photography. Born and raised in Basel, Switzerland, he co-founded photo basel in 2015, establishing the country's first and only international art fair dedicated to photography. The fair runs annually each June during acclaimed Art Basel week and showcases approximately 40 international galleries and their represented artists. In addition to the Basel edition, the fair expanded to Miami and Berlin in the past. In 2025, Eisenhut-Hug co-founded Africa Basel – Contemporary African Art Fair, alongside Benjamin Füglister. This initiative aims to provide a platform dedicated to African art within close proximity to Art Basel’s global art ecosystem. Africa Basel seeks to curate sustainable engagement and foster a deeper understanding of the continent’s artistic narratives. Eisenhut-Hug is also the founder and Co-Director of Art Salon Zürich, an innovative art event that brings together artists, galleries, and collectors in Zurich. The event fosters an intimate and dynamic environment for engaging with contemporary art and serves as an important platform for emerging talents. Beyond his work with art fairs, Eisenhut-Hug serves as a permanent jury member of the entrepreneurial class at his alma mater, the École hôtelière de Lausanne. He also participates in various juries for art festivals, museums and fairs, ranging from Lenzburg to Kyiv. Eisenhut-Hug's endeavours reflect his passion for promoting photography and contemporary art, as well as his commitment to fostering cultural exchange and supporting emerging artists and galleries on both local and international stages. He lives with his wife and daughter in Basel, Switzerland.
