About Artist
Daniel Giordan
My work is personal, organic, and introspective... I'm thinking about the fragility of life, the passage of time, and the enduring power of memory, inviting viewers to reflect on the temporality of their own lives and the inherent value of each moment. From moment to moment, as the pages turn, what is your current trajectory… what is mine? I was born in Jackson Michigan... a small midwestern town where things moved slowly. Jackson embodied the notion that "the wheels of the gods move slowly but grind exceedingly fine". People either scrambled to escape its orbit or resigned themselves to endure for the remainder of their days. I was a scrambler, and while I managed to escape the gravitational pull of this insipid little burg, Jackson's terse melancholia seeps out of my pores and into my work with unpredictable persistence. I'm hugely influenced by numerous photographers, including Sally Mann, Adam Fuss, Ori Gersht, as well as Stephen Shore, whom I studied with in graduate school at Bard College. Also, I'm always thinking about Philip Guston and Cy Twombly, as I’m infusing organic mark-making into the digital image.
