The Final Bow

Although these tulips were nearing the end of their life, they became intertwined in a graceful final bow. I captured them against a black bacground in B&W to emphasize their beauty.

About Artist

Renee Giffroy

As a young child I would go out ‘shooting’ with my father, an amateur photographer, who helped me appreciate the elements of composition at an early age. I used hand me down cameras until my late teens when I started purchasing my own. After graduating from college with an economics degree, I entered the working world, but enrolled in evening photography classes at local colleges to learn to develop and print my own film. Soon the demands of my full time job caused photography to take a back seat. For many years I exercised my ‘left brain’ in a wide variety of sales and marketing positions across the US with IBM. As I approached my decision to leave the corporate world I knew it was time to focus on my ‘right brain.’ I spent my spare time taking photography classes and workshops to hone my skills. For 5 years I worked on weekends with National Geographic Traveler Magazine as an onsite events manager for photography seminars across the US, which provided a wonderful opportunity to learn from world renowned photographers. Because I am energized by being around creative people, I became very active in the local arts community as I left the corporate world. For 7 years I served as the Board President of the New Hampshire Art Association, a nonprofit organization of over 300 artists representing a wide variety of visual art mediums and multiple gallery spaces across New Hampshire. That led to an invitation to serve on the Portsmouth Arts and Nonprofits committee and I became co-chair of the committee to execute the Americans for the Arts Study for the Portsmouth, NH Area. The year long study quantified the impact of arts and cultural nonprofits organizations on the local economy. I am also a graduate of Leadership Seacoast, an organization that encourages community engagement through exploration of local issues and personal leadership development in the NH Seacoast area. I continue to serve on their program committee. In addition, I am a former president of the Seacoast Camera Club and currently serve as a club officer. I am a juried exhibiting member of the New Hampshire Art Association, Master Artist member of the Newburyport Art Association in Newburyport, MA, member of the Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter, NH, the Kittery Art Association in Kittery Maine, the New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists, and the Seacoast Camera Club in Portsmouth, NH. I have exhibited my work in several solo shows as well as participated in many group exhibits, and have received numerous awards and recognition for my images both locally and internationally. Currently I exhibit and sell my work in galleries in New England, where I live.
