About Artist
Robin Schwartz
Robin Schwartz has created an archive of nude and erotic photographs. From Woodstock in 1969 to her revolutionary piece “Crotchwatching” published in VIVA magazine in 1974 to this outer space fantasy originally photographed for Playboy, to her cover and lay-out of celebrity Paula Yates shot in the famous and strictly gentleman-only English Reform Club for Penthouse London. Robin was a 20 year old girl living alone in NYC and working in a predominately male field. Her photographs represent an artistic and political time capsule of a unique moment in the history of America. It was at the confluence of both the Sexual Revolution and the Women’s Movement. 1972 brought Ms. Magazine and then there was the groundbreaking VIVA intended to appeal to the sexually liberated feminist. Her pictorial essay was the first time photographs of male erections were published by a woman in a national newsstand magazine for the pure edification of other women. Her body of work has never before been published or exhibited in its entirety. As the first wave of feminists are dying, it’s important that this work be shown so that younger generations know what came before.
