About Artist
Ahmet Sel
BIOGRAPHY Independent photographer Ahmet Sel has developed, over several decades, a body of work centred on the human presence, situated between documentary portraiture and institutional representation. Educated in Paris (Université Paris X and INA), he began his career as a reporter and cameraman for French television before working in conflict regions across the Middle East and the former USSR. He later settled in Moscow, where he became head of the SIPA PRESS Moscow bureau. His practice progressively shifted from reportage to the constructed portrait, notably with the series People of Moscow and Kabul, Staged Portraits, marking a transition toward a photography based on presence, distance and relationship. Alongside commissioned work, he continues long-term documentary projects, publications and curatorial activities. BOOKS People of Moscow, Catleya, Paris, 2001 Kabul, Staged Portraits, Horizon Illimité, Paris, 2003 Galop, Horizon Illimité, Paris, 2003 Koç, A Philanthropic Saga in Modern Turkey, 2011 Davutpaşa Orta 3, Aras, 2012
