About Artist

David Liam Kyle

David Liam Kyle discovered photography on a London street in the late 1970s while playing professional basketball in Europe. That unexpected moment launched a four-decade career capturing decisive moments across photojournalism, sports, and street photography. Kyle built his foundation through seventeen years as an award-winning photojournalist and staff photographer with the Sun Newspapers, developing his eye for news, events, and human stories. He has since photographed over 800 assignments for Sports Illustrated and documented more than 1,800 NBA games as official photographer for the Cleveland Cavaliers and NBAE. His images regularly appear on ESPN, TNT, and NBA-TV, with work featured in Sports Illustrated's year-end editions and selected as one of "College Football's Top 150 Greatest Photos of All Time." Kyle's background as a Cleveland State All-American provides unique insight into anticipating action and emotion. "I can see the play developing and anticipate what will happen next," he explains. This ability extends beyond sports to street photography and photojournalism, where timing captures the story. When injury redirected his basketball career to Europe, Kyle found his true calling behind the lens. "I strive to capture the decisive moment or emotion that conveys a story in a single photograph." Kyle has been inducted into three Halls of Fame and continues photographing the moments that tell our stories.
