Kandinsky’s steel street

Kaifeng, China, I had wandered into the old market of this former capital, filled with second-hand scrap metal. Rusted steel fragments forming circles, triangles, and arcs, felt like Kandinsky’s geometric abstractions brought to life.

About Artist

Junichi Wajda

In the late 1980s, I began my journey as a press photographer for Gamma Presse Images and Gamma Liaison later having embraced the freelance path, I deepened my experience for portraits, simultaneously, I gradually explored the realm of artistic expression. Central to my journey was the intersection with the "unseen." The pursuit of elements that elude the viewfinder and focus glass, the quest for realities beyond capture, came to signify dwelling, wandering, refining the senses, and engaging with the world in a reflective manner rather than mere capture. Long exposures and multi-perspective gazes became integral to my approach. My method is typological and multiperspective, seeking scalar and vector elements hidden in a space, sometimes deliberately portraying opaque and blurred images. Over time, I found myself captivated by the resurgence of childhood "Incidents," the nocturnal world of flourishing plants, the unconscious structures unfolding behind bookshelves, and the diverse perspectives within Japanese gardens created by the medieval ink painter Sesshū. In recent years, my focus has shifted towards a process that captures the transformation of the world from a single perspective space into a more "intimate" portrayal of one's own place. My work is perhaps an attempt to symbolize the invisible, evoking words and emotions rather than being confined to conceptualization.
