Eric Van Den Brulle
Eric van den Brulle is an internationally acclaimed photographer whose work bridges documentary observation, cinematic composition, and contemporary fine-art photography. He began his career assisting legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz during her iconic GAP portrait campaign, an experience that placed him at the center of a defining moment in modern portraiture. Over the following decades, van den Brulle developed a distinctive visual language while producing editorial work for major international publications including The New York Times, Forbes, Outside Magazine, and Travel + Leisure, alongside commissions from institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and collaborations with artists including Frank Stella. His photographs—often created through extensive travel across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas—are noted for their atmospheric intensity and humanistic depth. The work has been reviewed by Barbara Pollack in ArtNews and is held in prominent private collections including those of Takashi Murakami, James Taylor, filmmaker Robert Benton, and model-actress Frederique van der Wal. Expanding his practice into cinema, van den Brulle studied under Academy Award–winning cinematographer Gordon Willis and went on to shoot films screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and Tokyo International Film Festival. He also served as cinematographer for acclaimed contemporary artist Mika Rottenberg on her celebrated moving-image work Bowls Balls Souls Holes. Van den Brulle’s photographs are collected internationally and are recognized for their refined visual lyricism and enduring sense of place. Eric van den Brulle | Photographer
