About Artist
David Cook
I’ve always had a passion for the outdoors and after a 30 year career as an educator and IT Professional, I began pursuing my love of nature and photography. I am a Texas Master Naturalist and Travis Audubon Master Birder as well as a member of the North American Nature Photography Association where I serve as Chair of the Conservation Committee. During COVID, I completed my first book called Picturing The Lost Words, a photographic and poetic exploration of words from nature that were removed from the Oxford Junior Dictionary in recent years. I presented on this project at the Texas Photography Festival and to Bexar County Audubon. My photographs have been included in numerous juried shows including the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Midwest Center for Photography, Glasgow Gallery of Photography and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute’s inaugural Art That Matters to the Planet exhibit. In addition to my photography, I help connect kids of all ages connect to nature by volunteering and leading tours at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center and Westcave Preserve here in Austin, TX. I also serve on the Board of the Bull Creek Foundation, and am actively involved in conservation projects including bird surveys, digital camera trapping efforts and invasive species management.
